As Outside General Counsel, How Do You Conduct the Initial Business/Legal Audit?

The first step in any outside general counsel relationship is for me to get my arms around the entirety of the business. That means meeting key personnel, interviewing people as needed, and reviewing all the key documents. You may have a standard set of contracts, insurance policies, any kind of internal documentation, such as your handbook or any other employee guidance that you have, and then discuss what it is you do, how you do it, and what your expectations are from the general counsel moving forward.
